The KISS Principle: Keeping it Super Simple

I was inspired to write this post as I was trying to put clothes away in my dresser this afternoon.  You see, it was already so full that I couldn’t squeeze in the freshly washed clothes.  The trouble is that I know that I don’t wear most of the clothes that are currently taking up the space and I also know how much happier I would be if I cleaned it out.  I’m sure you’ve come across similar challenges in your home or life from time-to-time.  If it’s not in the closet, perhaps it’s in the plastics drawer in your kitchen!

Just to get it out of the way, I’m sure you’re wondering why I changed it from the common phrase.  I’m not a fan of the word “stupid” so I’m softening that on purpose.  I also don’t believe that people with more complicated situations are actually stupid.  They’re just more complicated or busy at this particular point in time.

Minimalism has become a quite popular buzzword lately but it battles fiercely with the giant marketing machine that is capitalism.  There are contrasting forces on us at all times.

“Buy this!”

“Buy that!”

“I want one of these!”

“I want two of those!”

These statements collide with

“I have a hard time keeping my home tidy”

“I can’t find my keys”

“I don’t know what to wear”

Or how about, “I’m so busy” and “I wish I had more time”?

How did the other picture of my messy dresser above make you feel?

How about this picture of the organized clothes?  It’s better, right?!

I will be talking quite a bit about minimalism, the benefits, how to.  All that good stuff.  Because it’s important.  And it makes our lives better.

I want to curate my life so that I have space as clean and beautiful as this.  Freedom.

Take one step today.  Clear out a drawer.  Tidy your inbox.  Donate some of your unused clothing.  Sell your old kid’s toys.  Whatever it takes to consciously make some space in your life.  Every step will get you closer to your dream home.

Here are some great resources if you’re inspired to start your journey to minimalism:
